Details about Sunny Hill:

The Heritage Preservation Society of Putnam County is proud to host a Holiday Tour of Sunny Hill on December 13th from 3pm to 7pm at 911 E Washington St, Greencastle.  This extraordinary brick Italianate is owned by Phil and Susan Gick. Built in the mid-19th century, the home is a lovingly restored gem of Greencastle. It has a rich history, decorative detailed architecture, and elegant furnishings.

Sunny Hill was built in 1868 by Richard Mordecai Hazelett and remained in the ownership of family members until June 1946. The current owners, Phil and Susan Gick are the 4th owners since the home passed out of the Hazelett family, acquiring the home in April 1994.  Restoration commenced upon Phil's retirement from the Army in 2006.  The home has 12 rooms on the two main floors and 1 on the 3rd floor. At least 9 of the rooms on the two main floors will be open to the public during the tour.  The home has a large collection of American and European 19th and 20th century fixtures and furnishings and “oriental” rugs from multiple countries throughout the house.

The house is decorated throughout for the Christmas season.  There are four rooms on the 1st floor that have themed 7’ trees and the central hall on the 2nd floor hosts a 9’ themed tree. The decorations throughout the house include a large collection of Nutcrackers, numerous Christmas Pyramids, and an assortment of Nativity Scenes from both the US and multiple overseas locations.  For this special occasion only, the Gick’s will have the Morning Room and the Dining Room tables set with two different sets of Waechtersbach Christmas dishes.
