About this event

The instructors will take you through a 3-part workshop to discuss the entire process of your film, from idea to finished product, along with sharing your movie with the community. Film Director and Artist, Mary Mullane, will help you get started. Her workshop will cover scouting locations, brainstorming ideas, creating storyboards and scripting, along with legal issues related to filming. Filmmaker and TV producer, Blue Green, will lead the second part of the workshop. He will cover the production process; From making a checklist of materials needed to do lighting, sound and establishing the proper crew (or being your own self-sufficient crew). Chris Miller -- a journalist, videographer and marketer – will discuss how to apply the principles and ethics of journalism to your film, especially when pursuing investigative-style documentaries. He will also be assisting with the shaping your story, finding a narrative thread, basic editing techniques, marketing and promoting your work through social media and other avenues. The workshop series will take place Friday, June 1st (6-9pm) and Sunday, June 3rd (11-2pm) Location is TBD -but will be announced on HSNA’s Facebook page ASAP! Participants will only need to attend one of these two dates. The instructors also will be available for open mentorship hours Aug. 11th from noon to 2pm at the Highland Square Library. Why should you attend the workshop? For starters, everyone who participates will have their film fest submission fees waived! Also, you’ll get to hear from and meet three industry professionals who have achieved success in a variety of mediums.
