About this event

Southwest Michigan-based Matt Lenny and his band The Breakdown will release their new album For the Birds at the Box Factory for the Arts at 7 p.m. on April 22nd. The album features a collection of songs exploring family, aging and the various paths that lead us home. Joining the band will be Kalamazoo singer-songwriter Kait Rose who added vocals to the album.

Matt is already familiar to Box Factory audiences as the monthly host of Open Mic. He is a guitarist, songwriter and singer born of Bowie and Muddy Waters. Whether playing solo acoustic or with his full band, his powerful songs are both lyrically rich and immediate. Copies of the band's new album will be available for purchase at the concert.

"Making this album was a truly joyful process and, honestly, one of the best experiences of my entire life - not only musically but personally," Matt says. "These guys are all important people in my life - friends as well as collaborators - and it was a gift to be able to do this together, and I'm truly proud of what we created together."

Kalamazoo-based Kait Rose has been playing guitar and writing songs since 2001 after finding her mom's Alvarez guitar in a closet. A storyteller in the purest sense of the term, Kait bares her soul with songs of personal struggle and strife, set aloft by her powerful voice.  She has produced 7 records, most recently Balance which was produced in 2022. Her debut music video, Bad Mother, is a Michigan Music Video of the Year nominee.
