'Youth with Promise' Donation

The 100 Black Men of Omaha refers to all our mentees as "Youth with Promise"! Instead of using terms such as "at-risk", we use the term “Youth with Promise” to avoid labeling young people through a deficient lens. By choosing "Youth with Promise," we seek to foster a culture of empowerment and optimism. This shift is not merely semantic; it is a powerful declaration of belief in their potential and inherent value. "At-risk" labels them by their circumstances, often highlighting deficits and limitations. In contrast, "Youth with Promise" emphasizes their strengths, dreams, and capacity for growth and success. It tells our youth that they are seen for their potential rather than their problems.

In essence, "Youth with Promise" is a call to action for everyone to participate in unlocking the potential within every young person, ensuring they have the resources, encouragement, and opportunities to fulfill their promise.

About this event

The 19th Annual Men of Honor Awards event will provide the ideal platform for inspirational and highly respected leaders to deliver timely messages, all the while raising needed dollars for the 100 Black Men of Omaha, Inc.’s mentoring programs. The purpose of this gathering is not only to raise crucial funds, but to ignite hope and build brighter futures for youth in the Omaha community.

This year’s honorees include Terence 'Bud' Crawford, Undisputed Boxing Champion, H. Dele Davies, MD, University of Nebraska Medical Center Senior Vice Chancellor, and Jabin Moore, 2024 Mentor of the Year.
