About this event
We will host two classes on May 7 (Wednesday) and May 8 (Thursday) for our summit this year, a chainsaw certification and a trail crew leader class. These classes are open to SORBA members, volunteers, partner organizations, and land mangers.
Chainsaw Certification (SOLD OUT)
Developing Thinking Sawyers is a two-day chainsaw safety course designed to train volunteers to safely and effectively clear downed trees. This is a program of the USDA and US Forest Service. Participants will learn to independently buck and limb any size material in moderately complex situations. Just as a prospective driver does not go to the local DMV expecting to learn how to drive, prospective sawyers are expected to be comfortable with chainsaw use and to have basic chainsaw maintenance/troubleshooting skills before certification. Must have a current CPR/First Aid Certification (valid and present at time of training) and PPE. Sawyers can be certified up to a B - Bucking USFS level in this class as appropriate. ***Lunch will be provided***
Trail Crew leader (SOLD OUT)
Trail Crew Leader training is a two‐day course that teaches best practices for sustainable trail design, construction, maintenance and how to run volunteer crews on work days. The focus is long term sustainability that can reduce overall maintenance needs and user impacts. Trail crew leaders should have a strong commitment to sustainable trails and enjoy helping others have a good time while doing trail work. Experience of at least a year is recommended to attend. ***Lunch will be provided***
