About this event
The CCA California Orange County Chapter Pinhead Open is an annual scramble-style golf tournament held at Costa Mesa Country Club, bringing together anglers, outdoor industry partners, sponsors, and supporters for a fun day on the course. The event features activities throughout the course, food and beverages, raffle and silent auction opportunities, and a post-tournament luncheon and awards program. Proceeds support CCA California’s conservation, advocacy, and recreational fishing efforts.
CCA California currently has several major advocacy priorities underway, focused on protecting recreational fishing access while supporting sound, science-based fisheries management. Every dollar helps support some of the following key efforts:
-Marine Protected Areas (MPAs): Engaging heavily in the MPA Decadal Management Review and the Fish and Game Commission’s consideration of Bin 2 petitions. CCA CAL is supporting CDFW’s science-based evaluations, opposing unnecessary expansions and wholesale changes to the existing network, and advocating for fishing access to remain a meaningful part of the process.
-White Seabass Regulations: Participating in the current white seabass rulemaking process, including the proposed increase in the minimum size limit. CCA CAL is pushing for decisions to be supported by updated stock science, socioeconomic analysis, and clear evidence that regulatory changes will meaningfully benefit the fishery.
-Citizen Science & Fisheries Research: Expanding partnerships with CDFW, researchers, sportfishing operations, and anglers to improve fisheries data. Current projects include bass sampling, white seabass tag recovery, artificial reef research, and other angler-supported data collection.
-Angler Representation & Access: Continuing to represent recreational anglers before the Legislature, Fish and Game Commission, CDFW, Ocean Protection Council, and other decision-makers, with an emphasis on ensuring anglers have a seat at the table when policies affecting California's fisheries and public access are developed.
