About Sun Lakes - Dry Falls State Park:
Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park is a 4,027-acre camping park with 73,640 feet of freshwater shoreline at the foot of Dry Falls between Soap Lake and Coulee City. Carved by Ice Age floods more than 13,000 years ago, the former waterfall was once four times the size of Niagara Falls. Today, the 400-foot-high, 3.5-mile-wide cliff overlooks a big sky and a landscape of deep gorges and dark, reflective lakes. The park also offers trout fishing, hiking trails, and nine hole and miniature golf.
Itinerary
FRIDAY, JUNE 28th
Suggested arrival time: 2:30 PM - 8:00 PM. Campsite will be open at 2:30 PM. There are plenty of spots to pitch a tent at our Group Site 1 (map). There will be SEAPAX members around to help anyone set up their tent. Please contact Carolee Walters (cjwalters11@outlook.com) if youʻre keen to camp but donʻt have gear or a tent of your own - we will see what we can do!
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM SEAPAX BYO Dinner at Campfire: come with a meal from home, bring your cook gear, or use the on-site campfire and grill. Shared dishes are welcome!
SATURDAY, JUNE 29th
7:00 AM - 9:00 AM: Come to the SEAPAX campfire for fruit and baked goods to start your day!
Spend the day adventuring around the park. Here are some recommendations:
- Hike the park's 15-miles of trails that wind through sage-scented hills and tabletop cliffs with panoramic views. Check out the popular 2.7 mi Umatilla Rock Hike or nearby 1.5 mi Lenore Lake Caves Trail.
- Enjoy Park Lake for beaches, kayaking, paddle boarding, fishing, and more! Boats, boarsd, kayaks, etc. are available for rent at the Sun Lakes Park Resort.
- Golf at the nine-hole Vic Meyers Golf Course or 18-hole mini-golf course.
- Eat at Duke's Diner or Stacey's Top Chef Concessions next to the Dry Falls Visitor Center, open 10AM - 6PM. Menu includes snacks, hot dogs, drinks, ice cream, milkshakes, and espresso. Free WiFi is available at the visitor center and concessions.
- Drive Highway 17 National Scenic Byway, one of seven in the US with gorgeous vistas along the Coulee Corridor.
- Live Music at the Gorge Amphitheater, just an hour away - Grammy-nominated Noah Kahan will be playing Saturday night. Get tickets here.
