About this event

Presented as part of Memories of the Past That Hug Me in a Nest, please join us for a series of workshops with Tiago Almeida exploring the exhibition through conversation, making, and feeding.

Contraegun, translating as "against chaos," is a Brazilian Portuguese term for a braided straw band worn around the arm. In this workshop, participants will learn about the history and significance of this tradition while braiding their own contraegun. Together we will explore how forces of chaos are not simply something to resist, but something to honor, work with, and understand. Through conversation and making, Almeida will share perspectives from Candomblé on protection, balance, and the relationship between order and transformation.

Saturday, July 18, 2–4 PM

All materials provided. Free participation is available upon request by emailing: info@icasantafe.org. Workshops are limited to 15 participants.
