About this event

We are excited to invite you to the Inaugural Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization Academic Lecture, presented in partnership with UN-Habitat and Pratt Institute, taking place on Friday, September 26, from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM at Pratt Institute's Brooklyn Campus, Higgins Hall Auditorium.

Event Description:

This lecture explores housing as both a human right and a foundation for social well-being, economic stability, and sustainable development. It examines today’s housing challenges and opportunities within global frameworks such as the UN’s Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development Goals, the New Urban Agenda, the upcoming Second World Social Summit for Development, and the UN Climate Conference in Brazil. The session also introduces UN-Habitat’s role and approach, looking at regional housing crises, their drivers, and responses. Topics include informal settlement upgrading, governance, finance, and sustainability, with case studies encouraging students to reflect and connect these issues to their own work.

Speakers include:

  • Francis Bronet, President, Pratt Institute
  • Yasemin Kologlu, President, Consortium for Sustainable Urbanization
  • Anacláudia Rossbach, Under-Secretary-General, and Executive Director of United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat
