Join acclaimed vocalist Vignesh Ishwar for an engaging exploration of the sounds, structures, traditions, and ideas that shape Karnatik music. Through guided listening, demonstration, and discussion, Vignesh will introduce participants to the music’s distinctive sonic elements and compositional forms while unpacking the many layers of the Carnatic concert experience.

The workshop will also explore how Carnatic music has evolved over time, looking beyond technique to consider the people, practices, histories, and social environments that have influenced the art form and its performance.

Whether you are already familiar with Carnatic music or experiencing it for the first time, this workshop offers an opportunity to listen more deeply and gain a richer understanding of one of India’s great classical music traditions.
