About this event
Join your community at Susquehanna University to view the MY ASCENSION film and participate in an important conversation about youth mental wellness. Registration for the event starts at 8 a.m. The film will run from 9 to 11 a.m.
MY ASCENSION chronicles the story of Emma Benoit, a varsity cheerleader who was paralyzed in a suicide attempt. This propelled her to use her experience to help others find hope and stay alive. For years, Emma quietly struggled with anxiety and depression, too ashamed to share her pain with family or friends. Through navigating the challenges of recovery, she discovered purpose and passion in helping other struggling teens.
MY ASCENSION is an inspiring look at Emma’s story and includes first-hand experiences of families, friends, school officials, and suicide prevention experts. The film does not shy away from the difficult realities of the ongoing youth suicide crisis but shares valuable resources to help keep teens safe. After the film, audience members will engage with Emma, ththe film’s director, and others to discuss crucial topics like recognizing warning signs, destigmatizing mental health conversations, and providing support for those in crisis.
