From Peace Corps Experience to First Draft
Join award-winning writer and writing coach Paulette Perhach for an interactive workshop created for Returned Peace Corps Volunteers who want to turn their experiences into compelling personal stories.
Through guided prompts and practical exercises you’ll:
- Uncover promising story ideas from your Peace Corps experience
- Learn how to identify which ideas have the strongest potential
- Choose one story to develop
- Map out a clear, manageable outline
- Begin writing your first draft
You do not need to arrive with a polished idea or consider yourself an experienced writer. Bring your memories, your curiosity, and a willingness to explore what your experience might become on the page.

- $25 to participate
- 75% of funds collected will support our professional writing coach, Paulette Perhach
- 25% of funds collected will support SEAPAX, Seattle Area Peace Corps Association of RPCVs

About Paulette
Paulette Perhach (RPCV Paraguay) is a writer, author, and storytelling coach whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Elle, Slate, Vox, Cosmopolitan, and Marie Claire, among other publications. She is the author of Welcome to the Writer’s Life, named one of Poets & Writers’ Best Books for Writers, and the founder of Powerhouse Writers, where she helps writers finish their work, strengthen their craft, and get their stories into the world.
During her Peace Corps service in Paraguay, Paulette produced an educational podcast that received more than 40,000 downloads and built an online community of 8,000 people. That early experiment in using technology to connect people through stories eventually grew into a career. You can find her work this year in the Best Women’s Travel Writing anthology.
