Run for Hope 5K Walk/Run

ONLINE REGISTRATION FOR 2023 IS CLOSED - Registration Tables open at 8:00 am Saturday morning, behind Church Street Preschool!

Our Annual Run for Hope will be Saturday, May 13th, 2023.  Registration is $20 in advance and $25 at the race. All proceeds support Church Street Preschool and The Kayla Samascott Wilson Scholarship.

Kayla Samascott Wilson was a loved community member, wife, mother, and friend who passed in Feb 2020 after a courageous battle with breast cancer.  The Kayla Samascott Wilson Scholarship was founded in 2021 to honor Kayla's love of running and is awarded to families of Church Street Preschool who are in financial need of assistance with their tuition or have lost a parent.

The first Run for Hope was held in 2015 on Mother's Day weekend to honor the mother of a former Church Street Preschool student. Hope Oakes was only 35 when she passed away in 2014 from myelodysplasia, a form of leukemia. Run for Hope continues to be held on Mother's Day weekend in memory of Hope and all parents no longer with us.

This 5K Run/Walk is a fun community event, and all ages and abilities are welcome. The race this year is not chip-timed, rather we will have a race clock at the finish and will record all participant's times. 

8:45 am: Kids Run (short sprint)

9:00 am: 5K Start

There will also be kids activities and a raffle on site!

LIABILITY AND PUBLICITY WAIVER AND RELEASE

I know that running a road race is a potentially hazardous activity, which could cause injury or death. I will not enter and participate unless I am medically able and properly trained, and by my signature, I certify that I am medically able to perform this event, and am in good health, and I am properly trained.

I agree to abide by any decision of a race official relative to any aspect of my participation in this event, including the right of any official to deny or suspend my participation for any reason whatsoever. I attest that I have read the rules of the race and agree to abide by them. 

I assume all risks associated with running in this event, including but not limited to: falls, physical contact with other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators including the potential of contraction of a communicable disease resulting from contact with other participants, volunteers, race personnel, contract service providers, employees, and spectators. 

I also assume all risks including: the effects of the weather; high heat and/or humidity; freezing cold temperatures; traffic and the conditions of the road including surrounding terrain. I understand that roads are not closed during this race and that cars will be driving on the roads.  I understand that bicycles, skateboards, roller skates or inline skates, and animals are not allowed in the race.

Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your accepting my entry, I, for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Run for Hope, the Village of Valatie, Church Street Pre-School, Inc. a New York not-for-profit corporation, all event sponsors, all contract service providers, and each of their volunteers, employees, representatives and successors (the “Releasees”) from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in this event, even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons named in this waiver.  I agree to hold the Releasees harmless against any liability, loss or damage (including reasonable attorney’s fees) caused by or arising from my participation or attendance in the race.

I understand that the race will be photographed and/or recorded and I hereby give and forever grant the Releasees the right to use, adapt, publish, modify and reproduce my name, likeness, statements and/or voice for any purpose across all media.

I understand that this event is held rain or shine. I understand that this event does not provide for refunds in the event of a cancellation, and by signing this waiver, I consent that I am not entitled to a refund if the event is cancelled before or during the event.

I have read the forgoing and fully understand and confirm my agreement by submitting my registration for this race.
