About this event

There is a moment here, just before the day lets go, when everything softens.

And this time, we will end the evening with a little extra magic.

From 7:30 to 8:00, we’ll gather in the goat pasture for storytime for grown-ups. Bring a chair or borrow one of ours, add a little lantern to your ticket, and settle in as the sun disappears and the stars come out over the mountains and the Denver skyline.

As night approaches, the goats become wonderfully cuddly—just like little children at bedtime. They gather around the chairs, lean against people, ask for affection and join us as we read them a bedtime story. It is an experience guaranteed to make you laugh, make you cry, or simply leave you reflecting on the peacefulness that is possible in a place filled with animals and compassion.

The light stretches across the fields, warm and low, catching on feathers and fur and turning even the smallest movement into something luminous. The heat breaks, the air shifts, and the sanctuary exhales.

This is when they wake up again.

Our Sanctuary Sunset evenings invite you into that transition, where more than 20 different species move through the last hours of the day together—alert, curious and fully themselves.

On these evenings, The Savage Beet will be onsite with dinner and beverages available for purchase, offering a grounding, nourishing way to experience the sanctuary while staying rooted in the values that shape this space.

You’ll walk the sanctuary as the light changes, spending time with residents, witnessing their personalities and connections, and experiencing a version of this place that feels both peaceful and alive all at once.

And as the sun sets, you’ll become part of the closing rhythm.

Together, we tuck everyone in.

Final checks, evening feed, quiet voices, a bedtime story among the goats and the slow settling of a place that has carried a lot through the day.

It’s not just something you watch. It’s something you’re part of.

If you’ve been here before, this is a different world.

If you haven’t, this is where it starts.

Come watch the day end in a place built on second chances.

Visitor Guidelines

Broken Shovels Farm Sanctuary is a safe place for animals rescued from abuse, neglect, slaughter and exploitation. We do not breed or sell animals.

This is not a petting zoo. While many of the animals enjoy affection, they are not here for entertainment. They are individuals living their lives, and you are being invited into their space.

Please move gently, respect their boundaries and allow them to choose how they interact. Some will come right up to you. Others may prefer distance. Both are equally important.

Many of our residents are elderly, healing or living with chronic conditions. Our care is guided by long-term wellbeing and veterinary support, which may not always match outside expectations. We are always happy to answer questions and share more about their care.

Above all, this is a place built on trust. Thank you for being part of that when you visit.
