About this event

Beginning in his childhood, Michael Chekhov spent at least forty years across three continents developing his acting technique, initially in class and in theatrical productions, later in film. In these explorations he was encouraged both by his artistic teacher, Konstantin Stanislavski, and his spiritual mentor, Rudolf Steiner, to develop and refine his approach.

The outcome is a technique that over the last twenty-five years has grown in popularity all over the world: it is both comprehensive and universal, with the potential to work for all styles and forms of performance. It is both physical and psychological, as well as playful and easy, guided by the actor’s individual imaginative and creative resources. The actor’s creative individuality is at its heart and has the capacity to turn everyday activities into little works of art. All in all, many actors and would-be actors find it an immensely satisfying approach to work with to expand and strengthen their creativity.

During the six-day practical workshop, we will be exploring in practice both the foundations of the approach which tune all aspects of the actor’s instrument and the principles on which these are founded. We will also get to know aspects of the technique when applied to a play and scenes, taking first steps in how the technique works for character and text.

The in-person workshop has been created for anyone new to the technique and looking for a practical introduction; experience of acting or performance is recommended.
