About this event
Hot off the heels of Stoned Seance, join us this June for Lady of the Lake: Bake Ronkonkoma.
Who is the Lady of the Lake?
The infamous apparition said to appear over Lake Ronkonkoma has been causing a stir amongst ghost hunters since the 1970s, when ominous legends began to circulate about a mysterious figure by the lake known for her affinity for men between the ages of 18 and 38.
So the story goes, back in the 1600s, a Native princess belonging to the Setauket tribe fell in love with a white colonial settler who she was forbidden from marrying by her overprotective father. The two star-crossed lovers rebelled, continuing to meet by the water and occasionally sending each other letters across the lake.
In some versions of the legend, the princess drowned trying to cross the lake in a desperate attempt to be with him. In others, he drowned trying to reach her, and in true Shakespearean fashion, she committed suicide to be with him for eternity.
Whether the story is true or simply a romantic tale spun out of control, the fact remains that a remarkably high number of young men drown in Lake Ronkonkoma each year. This has led many locals to speculate whether the spirit of the lovelorn princess may still haunt the lake.
If it’s true, her bloodlust is quite specific. Seemingly, she has a particular taste for those who resemble her true love. Like some kind of ghostly siren, she calls to attractive young men and pulls them under the murky waters.
This might be cause for alarm if you’re a millennial man. But if you’re a New Yorker with an adventurous spirit and you think you’re up for the challenge, we’ll be heading out to the lake on Saturday, May 19th, to see if we can catch the murderous princess spirit in action.
While our main motivation is to see if we can spot the Lady, there have been quite a few UFO sightings reported over the lake, too. We’ll be bringing along a telescope to see if we can catch sight of any extraterrestrial activity.
The Gas, Grass and BBQ Pass is just $50! Enjoy a baked BBQ at Lake Ronkonkoma (* infusion always optional) with your psychic and shaman friends.
