About this event
Join Cape May Cares for a reading of the new play "La Garage". Set in the Fall of 1978, Gloria is marching. The ERA is three votes short. In Bucks County, northeast of Philadelphia, a generation of women is falling through the cracks in plain sight, just trying to keep the lights on. Not that anyone cares. Welcome to "La Garage," a fierce, funny and heartbreaking play about survival, sisterhood and the crap no one warns us about. Inspired by a true story, this is the journey of five women of a certain age and one sharp-eyed 12-year-old girl, all coming of age in the one spot they can call their own, a garage, and in the only way they know how - together. Written by Mary Lou Quinlan and Martha Wollner, and directed by Margarett Perry.
Your ticket directly supports the Cape May Cares All Star Theater Camp, which introduces kids to the creative world of theater through a hands-on, confidence-building experience. Campers learn what it takes to bring a production to life from start to finish—exploring performance, collaboration, listening skills, and imagination along the way. Working alongside artists and volunteers, students help create scenery, rehearse an original play, and ultimately share their work in a special performance for family and friends. The camp offers a joyful, empowering introduction to theater that celebrates creativity, teamwork, and self-expression. By attending, you are helping ensure that young people in our community have the opportunity to discover their voices and tell their own stories.
The reading will take place at Cape May Stage, followed by a reception at Elaine's who will provide complimentary light bites and an open bar—an opportunity to connect, reflect, and support a great cause.
All ticket proceeds will go to Cape May Cares All Star Theater Camp.
