About this event
The Cody Sisters, featuring Maddie Cody (banjo, guitar, vocals), Megan Cody (mandolin, guitar, vocals) and Will Pavilonis (bass), will play a bluegrass-flavored concert of originals, traditionals and recently written tunes in a Woods Hole living room on Tuesday, July 21 at 7:30 PM.
Ticket holders will learn of the concert's location, and other important information, by email about 24h before the show.
I never invite musicians to Woods Hole without going to several of their shows, feeling their vibe, and, if things work out, establishing a basic friendship. But when I stumbled upon the Cody Sisters on line, I just had to get 'em over here. Instrumental monsters! Great singers too. Then, on a recent bluegrass night at Mona's, Maddie walked in and I blurted out, "Cody Sister!" Maddie was substantially more gracious than I was, and, within minutes, their Woods Hole gig was on!
Both Megan and Maddie have now moved from Colorado to NYC to become regulars at Mona's Mondays, which is bluegrass night. They're rising stars on the bluegrass festival circuit - we're getting them to Woods Hole just in time, while they're still available.
One review of their record, "All the Quiet People," says, "it leans hard into contemporary acoustic folk, Americana, and sophisticated songwriting. This collection feels less like a bluegrass album and more like a testament to the idea, as stated in the title track, that 'all the quiet people have got a lot to say.'" It speaks of "a thrilling level of instrumental mastery," and "mandolin and guitar playing [that is] precise, fluid, and often blending virtuosic picking with melodic sensibility." In other words, just exactly the kind of music I love to bring to Woods Hole.
The review also speaks of, "their ability to weave tight sister harmonies around thoughtful, emotional lyrics." It says, "The Cody Sisters as not just rising bluegrass artists, but artists paving an interesting route for the future of folk."
