About this event
Aurora Nealand (clarinet, sax, vocals) brings the END Trio - with Josh Dunn (guitar), and Jared Engel (bass) - to Woods Hole for a New Orleans jazz concert on Thursday, July 2, 2026, at 7:30 PM. A word to the wise - Aurora sold out two shows (deservedly!) on her last visit to Woods Hole.
Ticket holders will get a "concert info" email about 24h before the show with details like where it is, where to park, etc.
I don't try to suppress the grin that steals my face when Aurora Nealand gets her groove on. Her playing is beyond virtuosic. It's profound, mirthful, surprising, and fluently musical. She takes New Orleans jazz to a new place. I'm so excited that she's coming to Woods Hole again to play for us. When I visit New Orleans, I try to find her when she's in town. If she's away on tour, the vibrant NoLa music scene feels a bit desafinado.
I'm not alone. Aurora was invited by Preservation Hall to do, “A Tribute to Sydney Bechet: Live at Preservation Hall.” It was released in 2011 to national acclaim. She also has a part in the post-Katrina TV series "Tremé." She recently did a tour of South Africa under State Department sponsorship. But most of the time she's playing multiple gigs per week in New Orleans, mostly as leader of an ever-changing combo of great players, but almost as frequently as a member of some other musician's combo du jour.
Here's a slightly-too-slick, but totally in-the-spirit video of Aurora with The Royal Roses, her regular NOLA band: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9c3qgtn4Mw
Here's another video - a whole concert that Aurora did at the New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park. The park's jazz concert series is one of the best things ever done with our tax dollars. I've seen some incredible stuff there - weekdays at 2PM, usually. Here's Aurora's show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpP2EQU0r3A
Josh Dunn - a frequent Woods Hole musical guest - has emerged as one of the strongest guitarists on the NYC trad jazz scene. And Jared Engel has been to Woods Hole with almost everybody, covering bluegrass, trad jazz and more. You will not want to miss this show.
