WESTFIELD ATHENAEUM AND MOSSO: MUSICIANS OF THE SPRINGFIELD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, ANNOUNCE A THREE CONCERT CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES
The Westfield Athenaeum will host the first of the concert Chamber Music series on Thursday, March 10, at 7PM, with Musicians of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, known as MOSSO, providing the music. A String Quartet of MOSSO musicians will be showcased, and Guy McLain, Executive Director of the Westfield Athenaeum, will offer a pre-performance talk at 6PM, which is free to ticket holders.
The concert series dates are planned for Thursday, March 10, Thursday, April 14, and Thursday, May 19.
March 10 - Violinists Mark Latham and Beth Welty, violist Noralee Walker, and cellist Sandi-Jo Malmon will perform William Grant Still’s Lyric String Quartet; Charles Ives’ String Quartet #1 Op.57 “From The Salvation Army: A Revival Service”; Beethoven’s String Quartet in C major, op. 59 #3; and an additional piece to be announced at the performance.
April 14 - A Woodwind Quintet led by Ann Bobo, principal flute, Nancy Dimrock, principal oboe, Ian Greitzer, clarinet, Ron Haroutunian, bassoon, Robert Marlett, horn, will perform Danzi Quintet in B-flat, Op. 56, No. 1; Hedwige Chretien Wind Quintet; Darius Milhaud La Cheminée du roi René; and Igor Stravinsky Pulcinella Suite.
May 19 - Marsha Harbison, violin, Ronald Gorevic, viola, Boris Kagabn, cello, Westfield resident Ellen Redman, flute and piccolo, and Sofya Shainskaya, piano, will perform Haydn flute quartet op. 5, no. 1 in D major; Rachmaninoff, "It's Peaceful Here", for violin, cello and piano; Florence Price, "Adoration" for violin and piano; Glazanov, "Spanish Dance" for cello and piano; Ibert, Deux Interludes for flute, violin and piano; Delibes, "Flower Duet" for flute, violin, and piano; Faure, "Pavanne" for flute and strings; W.F. Bach, trio for flute, violin, and viola; John Williams, Air and Simple Gifts for flute, violin, cello and piano; Randall Thompson, "Scherzino" for piccolo, violin and viola; Mozart flute quartet in D major; Gershwin, Promenade, "Walking the Dog" for flute and strings.
