About this event

I will shift my Inspire by FM 8-week class series. I question the sustainability of this dominant contemporary class model (drop-in, workshop, class series) in these dynamic times.

PRACTICING COMMUNITY : a model for sustainable collective practice

This series will prioritize a relationship to practice where the first thing we wish to do is be together, to meet. We show up for ourselves and others. We are confident the development we undertake together is pertinent: when I dream and practice alone certain things are possible, but when I am with others we co-create, are mutually responsible, we expand how we listen and see and feel, and so other possibilities and growth are made available. Practically, this is a peer-to-peer based training and research model. It is something between a dance class and an open studio.  Artists will be asked by email before each session for proposals, so that a practice plan can be created.

The schedule:

9h30 - 12h00

Tuesdays and Thursdays

April 15 to June 5 2025

Proto Studio #1107, 5333 avenue Casgrain, Montréal

Each session would be divided:

30 minutes : something quiet (meditative, internal and or posture-based practice )

One hour : group works on 1-3 pre-determined ideas together, that value the condition of doing things together, making use of the group (ex. partner-based work, observing one another, cypher…) etc.

Last hour :  individually led practice within the context of a group

I provide :

  • organization (space, equipment, correspondence)
  • curation (make a plan based on desires expressed by the group)
  • facilitation (keep time, support carrying out the plan for each session)

I seek artist-collaborators who:

  • Wish to work on togetherness
  • Wish to access practice based resources (studio, ideas, others, energy, motivation, imagination…) regularly, and in a financially feasible way
  • Are prepared to contribute to a space of development through contribution of support, energy, ideas, accountability, presence, care

Who is it for? Artists who are motivated, reliable, who have the capacity and curiosity to work on collective potential, who are varied in age, experience, background.  Artists who seek grounding in a practice that is recurrent, generative, and with the aim to support collective imagination and vitality.
