The Great “Medical” Imitators of “Psychiatric” Illness in Corrections
Objectives:
- To review historical differences between “organic” and “functional” medical conditions
- To identify acute and chronic medical conditions that may be misdiagnosed as psychiatric symptoms/disorders or behavioral disturbances.
- To provide strategies for the timely identification and management of medical conditions in correctional settings to reduce morbidity and mortality.
- To provide case studies that demonstrate the “pitfalls” of management of “The Great Imitators” in the correctional setting.
