The Room We Carry

NVA & Guests invites you to the premiere of “The Room We Carry”, the first chapter of “YOUTH”, a dance-theatre duology the company is working on over the course of the next year. 

A classroom holds more than lessons. It holds questions waiting to be asked, small acts of courage, and the memories of everyone who enters. This work celebrates the teachers and educators who make room for us to become, even as they carry questions of their own. Through highly physical contemporary choreography, text, and projections, “The Room We Carry” moves between the youth we remember and the young people before us. It traces the weight of guiding others. What do we bring into the rooms where we teach? What do we leave with? 

Choreographed and directed by Nicole von Arx and performed by Caitlin Taylor, Gabe Katz, Dareon Blowe, Juan Carlos Franquiz II, and Michael Greenberg. Lighting design by Kyle Driggs, projections by Amanda Hameline, and costume design by Caitlin Taylor.

Our theater is located inside the Cigar Lofts at:
920 35th Ave, Unit 3N
Long Island City, NY 11106

Entry Instructions
The entrance to the building is on 35th Ave. A staff member will be at the main door to greet you and let you in. Once inside, you can take either the elevator or stairs to the third floor — we are in Unit 3N.

Getting Here
The venue is roughly a 10–15 minute walk from nearby subway stations or a short ride on the bus. Please plan your transportation accordingly.

Parking
Street parking is available in the neighborhood, though it can sometimes be tricky to find — allow extra time if you plan to drive.
