Beyond Milkweed: Gardening for Monarchs (And Other Pollinators, Too!)

Learn how to create a gorgeous, attractive pollinator garden that delights both butterflies and people (and all the other pollinators, too)!

On Saturday, August 15th, join Ash Burkowski of Northern Wildscapes Plants+Design at Valour Community Centre - Orioles (448 Burnell St.) for an exciting gardening presentation: Beyond Milkweed: Gardening for Monarchs (And Other Pollinators, Too!)

Beyond Milkweed is an in-depth guide on how to provide a 100% native, nutritious perennial garden for Monarch butterflies that feeds both butterflies and many other pollinators alike!

Beyond Milkweed will focus on new data showing various species of native plants that best build fat and muscle mass in Monarchs for the long journey south.

Combined with additional published data showing their native flower preferences, Beyond Milkweed demonstrates through science-based strategies what plants to select, where to plant them for success, and some basic garden design concepts on how to group plants in a pollinator garden that will be both pleasing to the eye and attractive to Monarchs and their other fellow pollinators.

We'll also talk about soil, sun conditions, and some strategies for different soil types, moisture levels and sun exposures to help you plan out your pollinator garden space. The presentation includes a handout of all slides, including a full list of plants, their planting conditions, and a sample complete garden design that includes all of the plants discussed.

Join us for an evidence-based but down-to-earth presentation on how data and design can come together to create a beautiful, ecologically-valuable garden for Monarchs and pollinators.

Cost is $25/person.

Come and imagine your new, beautiful pollinator garden space with Northern Wildscapes and Valour Community Centre! ðŸŒ¸ðŸŒ¿ðŸ¦‹
