About this event
Baroque New World
Presented by the California Bach Society, Nate Widelitz, Artistic Director
The Baroque did not end at Europe’s shores—it flourished in the cultural centers of the New World, from Mexico City and Puebla to Brazil and Peru, where local idioms and European influences gave rise to music of extraordinary vitality and beauty. Centered on José Maurício Nunes Garcia’s radiant Missa Pastoril, this program also features vibrant works by Sumaya, Padilla, Hidalgo, and their contemporaries. Together, these seldom-heard masterpieces reveal the astonishing richness and enduring brilliance of the Baroque New World.
