The Norman Sylvester Band has played over 4000 gigs in their 40 years! They were at the first Waterfront Blues Festival in 1987, when a promoter gave them the opportunity to open for B.B. King at the Arlene Schnitzer Hall. Since then they have shared the stage with the likes of James Cotton, Tower of Power, Buddy Guy, Five Blind Boys of Alabama, Peter Frampton and many more.

The band tours all over the Northwest with their energetic Rhythm & Blues showcase. They are playing Festivals, private & corporate parties, schools and venues all over the region.

The band members include Norman “Boogie Cat” Sylvester, dynamic female vocalist Lenanne Sylvester-Miller, his Bass man (from the beginning) Rob Shoemaker, drummer Donald Taylor, keyboard player Jeff Otto and horn players Peter Moss, Shoehorn & Renato Caranto.

Saturday ONLY - Dmitri Matheny, Marilyn Keller, Mary Kadderly, the North Coast Jazz Ensemble, AND Carvin Jones (times TBD)

We'll start off as we traditionally do with the Seaside High School Jazz Band, with a tribute to Kyle Rieger. Dmitri Matheny, 2025's crowd's favorite, returns, as well as the local favorite North Coast Jazz Ensemble. New this year are vocalists Mary Kadderly and Marilyn Keller in separate shows; our final show will be Carvin Jones, blues guitar phenom out of Arizona. "Carvin Jones is a young cat out of Phoenix who I think is the next up-and-coming blues player." ~ Eric Clapton

About this event

Whether you're swaying under the stars or dancing in the sand, Seaside Jazz and Blues is more than music — it's a full-body, heart-thumping, seaside experience you’ll never forget. Let the waves crash and the good times roll — the sound of cool starts here!

WHY?

In September, 2021, Kyle Rieger was the band leader at Seaside High School in his first ever teaching position at 26 years of age. He was inspirational, and a positive rising force for music in Oregon. In May of 2022, just a few short days after a SHS Jazz Band performance at the Times Theatre and Public House, Kyle was killed in a car accident on Highway 26. The community was devastated.

Seaside Jazz and Blues, an annual memorial scholarship fundraising music festival, is an attempt to bring some good out of that tragic event. Net profits from the festival go to band camp fees, instrument rental costs, and a scholarship for a graduating Senior intent on pursuing music after high school. In its second year, the festival was able to provide $2400 towards this fund.

This festival is all about love, music, and community.
