Spend a day experiencing "History in the Valley!" Teachers can join us for a variety of experiences at Braddock's Battlefield History Center and Rivers of Steel and earn three Act 48 hours! 

Braddock's Battlefield History Center 

Stand on the very ground where the events of the 1755 Battle of Monongahela (“Braddock’s Defeat”) unfolded and shaped local, national, and world history forever! Learn more about this momentous battle in French and Indian War history and how you can incorporate STEAM through on-site field trips and hands-on outreach activities in your classroom! No matter what subject you teach, we can help enhance your curriculum to boost learning while creating memorable experiences for your students!

Rivers of Steel: Carrie Furnace

Learn more about the job roles of former Carrie employees, and discover just what it took to work at a blast furnace. From the science and technology of the iron-making process to the cultural context of the immigrant worker experience, participants will gain a firsthand understanding of how the steel industry shaped the history, character, and development of southwestern Pennsylvania.

Schedule: 10:00 AM - 2:30 PM

  • 10 AM - 11:30 AM: Braddock’s Battlefield History Center (609 Sixth St. North Braddock, PA)
  • 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM: Lunch (not included)
  • 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM: Carrie Blast Furnaces National Historic Landmark (801 Carrie Furnace Blvd. Pittsburgh, PA)
