About this event

The Center is excited to announce the revival of the Reel Spirit Movie Project with an online discussion of the film The Holdovers (2023) starring Paul Giamatti on Aug. 15 at 7:00 PM Eastern Time.

This dramatic comedy is set during the winter break of 1970 at a New England prep school where some students who cannot make it home find themselves held over. The film pits intellect vs will, expectation vs reality, promise vs grief, and features warmly rich character development by Academy Award-winning writer-director Alexander Payne (The Descendents, Nebraska).

Please view the film before the discussion on August 15. You can stream The Holdovers on Amazon Prime, Google Play, Fandango, YouTube, Peacock, and AppleTV. The format of these film discussions is both evocative and engaging. The facilitator for each movie creates a discussion guide that focuses on key themes for the film. You will receive this guide via email before August 15.

The facilitator for The Holdovers is CSW Associate Terry Decker. Terry is a Brevard resident who loves movies and volunteers his time and talent to the Center, and who is a repeat facilitator for The Reel Spirit Movie Project and A Little About A Lot. He brings many years of experience leading groups in education, non-profit, religious, and technical forums.

There is no fee to participate in this two-hour discussion. However, donations to Center for Spiritual Wisdom will be gratefully accepted. A suggested donation of $8 or more per discussion will help us continue to offer this and similar events.
