Astronomy with Binoculars (The Skies for Two Eyes)

In the late summer evening sky, constellations begin to yield to their autumn counterparts. After a short talk about the zodiac and the equinoxes, we’ll aim our binoculars at star clusters and other sights in Cassiopeia, Cepheus, Hercules, and the Summer Triangle. During short breaks, we’ll view Saturn, star clusters, and nebulae through telescopes. This event is all outside. Please bring your binoculars, a reclining lawn chair (or a blanket, if you’re comfy on the ground), warm clothing, and insect repellent (it can get very mosquitoy!). A few pairs of binoculars will be available to use if you don’t have your own. This program is geared towards people of all ages. Meet behnind the Education Center at Marty's Playspace. There will be a chance to look out of telescopes at this event. 

This program will be led by Jim Hahn. Jim is a lifelong amateur astronomer and science enthusiast. He got his first telescope and learned the constellations at the age of 8, built his own telescope at 15, and has been an informal astronomy educator for several years, giving presentations at local nature centers and schools. Jim is an active member of the Northern Cross Science Foundation, a local astronomy club focused on public outreach, and stays current by reading books and periodicals on the subject, both in print and online.
