The Threat of White Christian Nationalism

A Video Discussion Series - ONLINE

Wednesdays Sept. 11 — Oct. 2

7:00 to 8:15 PM

Facilitated by CSW Director Rob Field

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

—German Pastor Martin Niemöller

We are living in a moment of U.S. history fraught with the danger of white Christian nationalism. Members of the Religious Affairs Committee of Transylvania County’s NAACP, including CSW Director Rob Field, have prepared 4 short videos – each about 20-25 minutes long – on white Christian nationalism. The videos are intended to be a resource for reflection and civil discussion.

Join Rob Field on Zoom each Wednesday at 7:00 PM, starting Sept. 11th. For an hour and 15 minutes, we will view one of the locally-produced videos and then use discussion questions to engage what we saw and heard. The organizers of the series want our neighbors to be alert to this current threat to the safety and well-being of all Americans, regardless of race, gender, or religious affiliation. You are invited to join the discussion.

Although there is no charge to participate, donations are welcome. Suggested donation amounts are $8.00 per person per session or $25.00 for the 4-week series. Registration is required to receive the Zoom link.

Here are the topics:

Video 1: What is white Christian nationalism?

Video 2: Why emphasize the “white” in Christian nationalism?

Video 3: What does “Christian” mean in this context?

Video 4: What is the difference between “patriotism” and “nationalism”?

The participants in the series are a team of 11 mostly Christian women and men — white, black, straight, gay, and older (50+). One is a somewhat younger black man, another is a Jewish neighbor and friend. Each video has 3 to 4 speakers.
