MUSIC AT MOONWOOD WITH PIANIST COLE ANDERSON
About this event
Zander Knodt will perform a solo evening of jazz, including new works. Zander will be playing on a 1905 7ft. Mason Hamlin grand piano at Moonwood on Vashon, a private residence. A pre-concert buffett with nibbles and drinks starts at 5 pm. Music will start at 6 pm.
Zander Knodt is a NYC-based jazz pianist and composer who blends jazz with classical and contemporary influences. Zander grew up on Vashon Island Washington, where he started playing classical piano at the age of 7 and later jazz at 15. Having studied for 2 years at the Manhattan School of Music, Zander has had the privilege of learning from legendary musicians Phil Markowitz, Rogerio Boccato, Fred Hersch, and many others. At Moonwood, Zander will be performing a broad range of music, ranging from jazz standard repertoire to originally composed music inspired by Schumann and Mahler.’.
Music at Moonwood provides an intimate space to listen and enjoy live acoustic music featuring local Vashon musicians, visiting national and international performers. The main attraction of Music at Moonwood is the 120 year old Mason Hamlin conservatory grand; one of the heaviest ever built at 1.5 tons. The owner of the piano from 1945 to 1990 was Alberta Masiello, assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera in NYC who rehearsed and coached principle singers with this piano. In 1968 Maria Callas worked with Masiello to address her vocal issues. An unusually unique provenance for a piano.
