About this event

Dru Yoga with Christine

in Doreen's Garden Bloomfield's Homestead on the 19th February 2023

Christine and Doreen - Yoga in the garden

Dru was founded by friends. Amazing things happen when friends come together.

Christine was wondering what will happen if she collaborates with Doreen who is German as well and when they combine their passions and create a yoga class in Doreen’s garden.

As Doreen is the gardener the theme for the class will be EARTH - grounding and connection.

Want to experience that? Join us in the garden on the 19th February!

Who is Christine?

Christine was born in the same year as Dru was founded and has been living with her family in Australia for 14 years. She has been interested in yoga for decades and not until she went to a park session with Sylivia in 2019 that she decided to go for a yoga teacher training. Christine just felt so happy after each session with Sylvia. Christine has finished her 200h training with Dru Australia in September 2022. Christine will continue with her training in February 2023 and build up on her foundation. She is teaching during school terms at the Uniting Church hall in Ellen Grove.

When and how was Dru founded?

After graduation from university five friends, Chris Barrington, Rita Goswami, Annie Jones, John Jones and Mansukh Patel, on 6th May 1978 in the UK, created what would later be known as 'Dru'

What is the meaning of the word Dru?

Dru comes from the Sanskrit word d dhruva and refers to the stillness that can be experienced in Dru Yoga and Dru Meditation.

What is so special about Dru Yoga? Anyone can do it.

Dru has a very unique structure. Each session has 5 stages which are

  • Activation which is a fun way to warm up and release tension and break the ice in a yoga class.

  • Energy Block Release are sequences to stretch, twisting, bending and squatting movements that work on every part of the body. Each EBR has a focus. EBR1 which will be used in the class is known as the ultimate stress buster.

  • Postures and sequences have specific therapeutic benefits for the body and mind. Following activation and EBR1 the body is warmed up and they can be done safely without straining.

  • Relaxation is the natural conclusion of the practice. It allows the energy that has been activated during movements to settle, enabling your body to balance and heal itself.

  • Meditation is perfect after relaxation. The heightened sense of awareness and clarity gained from it allows unfolding of personal power. The first stages of the practice remove internal agitations and prepare the body and mind for the meditation.
