This intensely thrilling program showcases the virtuosity of the Piano Trio, while exploring the various lenses through which we experience fire. Theo Chandler’s recently composed “Combustion Preludes” opens the program, creating an entirely new sound world for each of its five unique perspectives on fire’s ability to comfort, illuminate, animate, and destroy. Following is Kelly-Marie Murphy’s evocative depiction of the myth of the Phoenix and its rise from the ashes. Bearing similarity to this theme of rebirth, Mendelssohn’s beloved C minor Piano Trio undergoes an incredible journey through turbulence and strife towards a richly warm and redemptive conclusion.
