About this event

Event Details

This 2-hour virtual session is designed to help you understand the unconscious protective function suicidal ideation serves so that you can learn to allow it to exist without the constraints of shame and guilt. The workshop also aims to help you learn how shadow work can be done through depathologizing suicidality so that you can become acquainted with the power you have to challenge oppressive systems and help make collective liberation a a reality.

We will discuss how your suicidal part protects you even through suicide attempts. We’ll also be doing a creative writing exercise in which you will write a prayer to your suicidal part as a means of embracing it as a protector. Space will be created for attendees to contribute to the discussion so that we can all share our unique insights into what it’s like living with suicidal ideation.

This session will be recorded and all registrants will receive an edited version of the recording in which participants' sentiments are removed.

About the Facilitator

I'm Laurel, a Mad Jamaican psycho-spiritual practitioner living in the United States. I have years of lived experience with suicidality, which includes two suicide attempts. This workshop has been crafted with the insight I've accrued from my lived experience, indigenous wisdom, and the knowledge gained from my tertiary education in biology and psychology (BSc.), which informs my holistic approach to mental health.

I have OSDD and am a 3-part system that uses shadow work as a form of parts work to help me work through psychological issues. That has helped me to reach the point of no longer needing to depend on suicidal ideation to survive, so all 3 of my parts are now open to existing indefinitely! I'm excited to host this workshop as it allows me to share how—through depathologization—you too can develop a better relationship with your suicidal part by perceiving it as a protector that's aiding your survival as you fight for collective liberation!
