About this event
The Henry Acker trio will play a concert of Manouche and American jazz at 4:00 PM on Monday, May 26, Memorial Day, in a Woods Hole living room. Ticket holders will learn the concert's precise Woods Hole location, and other important information, about 24h before the show.
Henry Acker is a monster jazz guitarist who has been to Woods Hole several times, most recently as a member of the Ian Coury, Jason Anick Quartet last March. He's not quite 21 years old and he's already played with - and won aclaim from - many world-class musicians, including Woods Hole favorites like Frank Vignola, Olli Soikkeli, Nicki Parrott, Gonzalo Bergara, Bucky Pizzarelli, and others. If you saw him play in March, you already know he's both massively talented and deeply musical.
Henry picked up the guitar at age 8 and began performing professionally at age 9. His talent and abilities have developed into nothing short of astonishing. He won the Djangofest North West Saga Award in 2017, and he's a five-time winner of the Downbeat Magazine Student Award for jazz guitar soloist. Since then, he's had a few years to practice, and he's getting pretty good.
Henry brings two relative unknowns to play with him. They're not complete unknowns, and if Henry's bringing them, you know they'll be good. Dan Pappas will play our 1912 Steinway, rebuilt and improved by David Stanwood in 2002. Dan teaches at New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music, and Berklee College of Music. Gregory Toro will play bass. He studied jazz composition and bass at Berklee, and performs nightly around Boston and away in a wide variety of styles.
Join us for an afternoon of jazz guitar wizardry to remember!
