About this event
Come camp with Kindling in Baxter State Park and hike Mt. Katahdin in queer community! We'll camp together on Friday and Saturday nights and day hike Katahdin on Saturday. Katahdin is a sacred mountain for Wabanaki people. Participants will engage in cultural pre-learning and discussions/activities to learn about the mountain's history and significance and to reflect on action steps they might take to be in right relationship with the land and people of so-called Maine.
Trip tuition covers access to borrowing backpacking equipment from Kindling’s gear library, your guides, all meals and snacks, and parking/Baxter State Park fees.
Experience Requirements: None
Activity Level Z: Expect moderate to significant elevation gain on uneven terrain. Participants should be comfortable climbing stairs and moving their body over obstacles using their arms and legs. 6-8 hours/day. This specific hike is for active people who engage in regular vigorous activity. This is a hard hike! Expect 3800 feet of elevation gain over 10.4 miles, including scrambling over rocks.
Group Type: QUEER. Queer events are designed as affinity spaces for queer and trans people of all racial identities. If you think you might be queer or trans, you are queer enough. While we love our allies and advocates, if you’re not queer, don’t come to these events.
