About this event

The harmonium is a wonderful instrument to accompany the voice and is often used for Kirtan and devotional music. It is a great support to a home sound yoga practice or for anyone interested in using sound as a tool for deeper meditation. Singing soothes our nervous system and when we sing with a drone, we are guided into states of bliss and relaxation!

In this workshop, we will start at the beginning and learn how to make a clear steady drone, sing into the tone, and maintain playing while chanting.

If you are already playing and are familiar with the harmoinum, Kavita will meet you where you are with deep-listening techniques to refine your playing and introduce ways to create original chants!

You will learn how to find your starting pitch and home hand position and how to begin to build chants from there.

We will go over some basic voice culture practices to begin to relax and open to our authentic voice as well.

No experience is necessary, just an instrument (harmonium) and patience to allow the practice to unfold through you!

There are many ways to approach this practice and Kavita's focus is on our merging with the sound as the tradition originated in India. This deeply felt way of playing allows us to open to the practice fully and begin to let go of any blocks we may have in our minds around music practice.

Please contact Kavita with questions or if you need tips on how and where to purchase an instrument.
