About this event

On sale date: February 6, 2024

Macrocosm is SOLI’s final concert of the season and occurs on the 30th anniversary of its first concert in 1994.  SOLI continues to create new large-scale projects, including its most recent 30x30x30 Project, a new music initiative supporting early-career composers in honor of the ensemble’s 30th anniversary. To celebrate the success of the 30x30x30 Project, the ensemble presents the first three of the thirty selected works: Piano Trio No. 1, an exciting, lush, atonal work written by Brittney Benton; Through Your Eyes, Movement I, a deeply personal and moving piece about connecting with one’s own creative voice by Alexa Canales; and Wail On by Alex Barsom, an introspective work emulating “the feeling of screaming to be heard but falling on deaf ears”. This performance will also feature the world premiere of a new work by Elliott Miles McKinley, Symphony No. 2 for Four Players, op. 79, a dramatic yet simple work that highlights the incredible musicianship of this ensemble. This May, the ensemble will travel to Italy and serve as the Ensemble-in-Residence at Alba International Music Festival Composition Program, and to highlight this, the program includes Book of Questions by Daniel De Togni, winner of this year’s Alba Alumni Competition. Thirty years ago, on this very date, on a concert stage in San Antonio, Texas, a dream began to take shape: the creation of an ensemble that would be a creative force in shaping the landscape of music in this country. Three decades, over a hundred commissions, premieres, and performances, eight albums, and countless awards later, SOLI is still living that dream today. We could not have accomplished this without the support of all of you, who have been with us throughout the years. Thank you!
