A vocal recital featuring BERIT JOHNSON, soprano,
and CLAUDIA DUMSCHAT, piano

Berit Johnson is a crossover singer-actor and voice teacher based in New York City. Originally
from Minneapolis, Minnesota, she completed her Master of Music in Vocal Performance and
Literature at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign after receiving a Bachelor of Music
in Vocal Performance and Theatre Art at Concordia College Moorhead. With Lyric Theatre at
Illinois, she workshopped the lead role of Amelia Earhart in Richard Maltby, Jr. and David
Shire’s “Take Flight” opposite Nathan Gunn under the direction of Richard Maltby, Jr. and
music direction of Kevin Stites, receiving the Illinois Opera Theatre Enthusiasts Award for
Excellence. Regional musical theatre and opera roles include Miss Honey in “Matilda the
Musical”, Fox in "The Cunning Little Vixen", Celia in "Iolanthe", Lucia in “The Rape of
Lucretia”, and Janet Weiss in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show”. She performs regularly in
cabaret showcases at renowned spaces such as Don’t Tell Mama in NYC, and has been singing
with the Transfiguration Choir of Men and Boys and Girls since 2021. Concert solo credits
include John Goodall’s “Eternal Light: A Requiem” and M. Praetorius’ “Puer Natus in
Bethlehem” under the direction of Claudia Dumschat, J. Haydn’s “Misa Sancti Hieromyni”
under the baton of Dr. Andrew Megill, and featured soprano in the Concordia Choir national and
international tours under the direction of Dr. René Clausen. She is an in-demand Estill-trained
voice coach and teacher, currently serving on the voice staff at Krowne Vocal School
