About this event

The Genital Autonomy Legal Defense and Education Fund (GALDEF) invites you to a double-feature global screening of

NURSES OF ST. VINCENT: SAYING NO TO CIRCUMCISION
and
FACING CIRCUMCISION: EIGHT PHYSICIANS TELL THEIR STORIES

Join genital autonomy advocates from around the world on Saturday, August 3rd as GALDEF screens the films Nurses of St. Vincent: Saying No to Circumcision and Facing Circumcision: Eight Physicians Tell their Stories. This fundraising event is the latest in a retrospective screening of historic intactivist films produced throughout the 1990s.

Filmmmaker Barry Ellsworth's Nurses of St. Vincent (1994) profiles the team of nurses at a Santa Fe, NM hospital who collectively refused to assist with newborn circumcisions. Nurses Mary Conant, Betty Katz-Sperlich, Ann Lown, and others explain why they could no longer ethically assist with this inherently harmful surgery on unconsenting infants. In 1998 the Nurses for the Rights of the Child organization, founded by the nurses at St. Vincent Hospital, produced Facing Circumcision to explore the ethical dilemmas facing physicians who either ceased circumcising or who struggle with continuing to circumcise newborns.

A moderated Q&A panel follows this double feature screening and will include genital autonomy pioneers Mary Conant, R.N., Christopher Fletcher, M.D. - both of whom appear in these films - and filmmaker Barry Ellsworth. Panelists will respond to audience members' questions submitted via the Q&A feature during the films.

Event capacity is limited to the first 100 ticket purchasers, so buy your ticket early and mark your calendars!

If you have friends who are nurses or physicians, please encourage them to attend this special film screening. Better yet, but them a ticket!
