Sabre Dance: A Celebration of Armenian Music | Seattle Festival Orchestra

The Seattle Festival Orchestra opens its 50th anniversary season with Sabre Dance: A Celebration of Armenian Music. The program opens with music by Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian, including selections from his dramatic Spartacus Suite No. 2, the iconic, energetic “Sabre Dance,” and the sweeping “Waltz” from Masquerade. and Contemporary composer Eldar Hudiyev’s Circus, featuring clarinet soloist Benjamin Lulich, brings a playful and dazzling contrast to the program. Completing the program is Symphony No. 50, Mount St. Helens by Armenian American composer Alan Hovhaness, inspired by the awe-inspiring forces of nature unleashed by the 1980 volcanic eruption.
