About this event
We are stoked to partner with SeaSpray Kayaking to offer a daylong paddling trip to Malaga Island off of Phippsburg, ME. We'll kayak out to the island, enjoy a seaside lunch, walk the loop trail and get a history lesson from Danielle Arroyo of Maine Coast Heritage Trust. This is a great trip for first time kayakers and anyone interested in learning more about Maine history.
The 41-acre island located at the mouth of the New Meadows River off the coast of Phippsburg was once inhabited by a fishing community of Black, white and mix-raced people. A mixed-race community occupied the island’s north end from the mid 1800s to 1912 when the State forcibly removed them. Learn more here and join us on the trip!
Experience required: None
Group Type: QUEER. Queer events are designed as affinity spaces for queer and trans people of all racial identities. If you think you might be queer or trans, you are queer enough. While we love our allies and advocates, if you’re not queer, don’t come to these events.
Activity level Y: Comfort climbing stairs, swimming, and balancing your body weight are helpful skills to have for this level of activity. Activity may include moderate elevation gain on uneven terrain.
3 – 6 hours/day
