Old Chestnuts, Re-Roasted (Palo Alto)

Join us around the fire as we “roast” again the texts and melodies so beloved of the holiday season. Over the centuries, composers have been inspired, again and again, by the texts of “Ave Maria” and “There is No Rose,” and by the melodies of “The Coventry Carol” and even “Jingle Bells!” We’ll share a few of these settings—from across the centuries and across cultures—pairing beloved old chestnuts with newly discovered voices, including those of our Composers-in- and Not-in-Residence.
