About this event
Silas Berlin will play a classical piano concert at 4:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2025, in a Woods Hole living room. Ticket holders will learn the concert location, and other important information, by email about 24h before the show. (Note: Photo derived from original by Mark Alan Lovewell of the MV Times.)
Silas, now 27 years old, grew up on Marthas Vineyard, the son of Jeremy Berlin, who plays keyboards for Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish and several other island groups. Silas was initially attracted to jazz, but as he matured, he found his deepest music in the works of Chopin, Scriabin, Beethoven, and Schubert.
Silas will play a 1912 Steinway Model O (Parlor Grand) piano that once belonged to Muk de Jari (1886-1973), star of opera, stage, and screen. The piano was acquired by Jeremy Berlin and rebuilt in 2002 by internationally renowned piano technician David Stanwood. It's been called, "The best piano I've ever played," by prize-winning ragtime pianist Dalton Ridenhour. It currently resides in a Woods Hole living room where it is appreciatively cared for until Silas calls it to a new home.
Silas currently lives in Seattle, but returns to Marthas Vineyard frequently. His island concerts last summer gained enthusiastic reviews. Asked to say a few words about the upcoming Woods Hole concert, Silas writes, "The audience will be encouraged to listen for the particularities of each [piece], through examples and an explanation of the composers’ individual harmonic languages."
He proposes to play the following program:
1.
Chopin, prelude in A-major Op. 28
Scriabin, prelude in A-major Op. 15
Scriabin, prelude in F-sharp minor Op. 15
Chopin, prelude in F-sharp minor Op. 28
2.
Schubert, impromptu in B-flat major, Op. 142
Beethoven, sonata in C-major Op. 2

2.Adagio
3.Scherzo
4.Rondo
3.
Chopin, nocturne in F-sharp major Op. 15

Please join us for a very special concert!

This is especially important recently. If, after giving to those efforts, you have a few bucks left over to help music bring smiles to our faces and peace to our inner lives, you may click on the "Tickets and Donations" button above to leave a donation for Woods Hole Music, Inc., even if you're not able to come to the show.
