Calling in the Ancestors : Two nights of Sacred Music

Friday, October 16th, 7:30 pm - Youssoupha Sidibe, African Kora & Sufi Chant

Saturday, October 17th, 7:30 pm - Kavita Kat Macmillan, Kiran & Sprit Songs

Join us friends for this special double header of sacred music "Calling in the Ancestors" with Grammy-award nominated Senagalese Kora master Youssoupha Sidibe and well-loved PNW chant artist Kavita Kat Macmillan offering music at Soha Sanctuary for the Healing Arts.  With guest musicians Dave Hoover (celtic harp and flutes) and Jeanette Kangas (percussion)

Sacred chant is a universal way to elevate consciousness and soothe the nervous system.   Chanting engages our right brain and through repetition, rhythm, mantra and the shared experience of singing with others in community we can connect with our inner self and the divine (however we relate to those concepts!).  Sound is a practice, not a religion.  All are welcome to join in with hearts and voices and feel the effect of the music and the vibrations to uplift and heal.

About the artists:

Youssoupha Sidibe is a Grammy nominated Senegalese West African kora (African harp) player whose music transcends tradition while remaining deeply rooted in ancestral lineage. Throw out all your ideas of what a harpist is. Youssoupha breaks beyond traditional kora styles hundreds of years old to create a sound entirely his own, blending the ethereal beauty of the 21-string kora with soulful melodies and contemporary global influences. Through decades of international touring, collaboration, and performance, Youssoupha has developed a devoted audience around the world.   A devoted practitioner of the Baye Fall Sufi tradition, Youssoupha’s music carries a deep sense of devotion, healing, and spiritual connection. His performances are more than concerts. They are immersive experiences of rhythm, prayer, joy, and remembrance. www.youssouphasidibe.com

Kavita Kat Macmillan is a musician, performer and transformational creative guide who brings over 20 years of sharing kirtan, Naad (sound) yoga, Hindustani vocal practice and creative expression with people of all backgrounds.  Through her offerings, retreats and in-depth mentorship program Kavita gently supports seekers to let go of patterns that get in the way of artistic expression & singing. Kavita facilitates at retreats, workshops, private & group classes & spiritual festivals internationally and is an open, supportive guide for those who wish to explore this path.    www.kavitakatmacmillan.com
