About this event
Title: “A sea level rise update for Washington State and the influence of low pressure and El Nino/Kelvin wave events”
Abstract: In this talk Ian will summarize the latest observations and future projections for sea level rise in Washington State and briefly touch on the ramifications of sea level rise, and some of the options and emerging strategies for preparing for those impacts. Ian will also discuss temporary influences of wind, low pressure and El Nino/Kelvin Wave events.
Dr. Ian Miller is Washington Sea Grant’s coastal hazards specialist, working out of Peninsula College in Port Angeles. Ian works with coastal communities, tribes and public agencies in Washington State to strengthen their ability to plan for and manage coastal hazards, including tsunamis, chronic erosion, coastal flooding and other hazards associated with climate change. He brings a suite of tools to this challenge, including outreach, coordination, applied research, a synthesis of existing science and assistance in securing whatever funding and additional expertise communities may need.
