About ThinkSelf

ThinkSelf provides Adult Basic Education instruction to a diverse community with an incredible range of life experiences. Seventy percent of our learners identify as immigrants or refugees and hail from a wide variety of educational, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

ThinkSelf’s other primary program serves survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as general crime. Since 2014, we have partnered with DayOne of Cornerstone to expand access for Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing survivors of violence and crime. DDBHH indivdiuals are 1.5 times more likely to experience interpersonal violence in their lifetime compared to non-Deaf peers; they also face unique barriers to justice and healing. Our collaborative project has provided education and outreach to over 5000 professionals and community members since 2014!

"Our participants, learners and community allies are the leaders of our organization,” said Aaron Gutzke, Executive Director of ThinkSelf. “They challenge us every day to continue to evolve and create innovative programming that fosters self-empowerment and resilience.”

ThinkSelf’s mission is to offer resources, education and support to Minnesota Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing adults seeking full access to options for learning, safety, justice, employment skills, and community. Our work is funded by private donations along with grants from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office on Violence against Women (OVW), Otto Bremer Trust (OBT), and ARPA Survivor Support & Prevention.
