About this event
Join Waukesha County Land Conservancy's Land Management Director, Helen Holtz — in partnership with Mequon Nature Preserve and Conservation Dogs Collective — for an engaging and informative talk on Wisconsin's turtles and how we can help protect them.
Wisconsin is home to 11 unique turtle species, each playing a vital role in our ecosystems. However, habitat loss and other human impacts have led to population declines across the state. During this event, you'll explore the diverse characteristics, behaviors, and ecological importance of our native turtles. You'll also learn about the challenges they face and simple, meaningful ways we can all contribute to their conservation.
This event will showcase how specially trained canines, like Tilia, can locate and monitor turtle populations. Featuring a special live demonstration by a trained conservation detection dog, you'll witness firsthand how these remarkable dogs sniff out turtles, providing an innovative and critical approach to wildlife conservation research.
Whether you're a lifelong nature enthusiast or just curious about the wildlife in your own backyard, this is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your understanding of Wisconsin's turtles and the role we all play in their future.
This event is open to all ages!
