About this event

Matt Flinner and Joe K. Walsh present a concert of mandolin, mandola, octave mandolin, mandocello, and banjo music in a Woods Hole living room on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 7:00 PM.

Ticket holders will get the concert's Woods Hole location - and other important information - by email about 24h before the show.

Matt and Joe are so integral to my musical experience that my attempt to describe them feels like a fish describing water. They've always been here for me. My first distinct memory is a concert in Santa Cruz, with Matt Flinner playing with guitarist David Grier and bassist Todd Phillips, in a former bank vault, where the silences between the notes floated like non-fungible tokens. I'm less sure how I met Joe, but he's been to Woods Hole to play for us more times than I can count. The two of them have played with a plurality of the great musicians that have been to Woods Hole - Mike Marshall, Tony Trischka, Mike Block, Grant Gordy, Darol Anger, Sam Grisman, Frank Vignola, Brittany Haas, Jacob Jolliff, Ross Martin, and more.

The music this duo makes has a flexible core of traditional American tunes, the "echoes of the ancient tones" that inspired Bill Monroe. From this core, they spin a dynamic performance that bridges bluegrass, jazz, classical, and contemporary acoustic music. Admittedly, these are hollow words for those who haven't sat in their presence, so here are a few videos:

Here's "The Countryside Effect," with twin mandolins. https://youtu.be/gD4ndHS4BfQ
Here's "Clouds" with Joe on mando and Matt on banjo. https://youtu.be/zf8XBqWRTQQ
This one is called, "Fallen Star" with Joe on octave mando and Matt on mando. https://youtu.be/sJgnIDznhCk
