Reel Spirit Movie Project: Barbie Jan. 16

The first installment of Reel Spirit Movie Project in 2025 on Thursday, Jan. 16 will feature the movie "Barbie" (2023). Our online discussion will begin at 7:00 PM EST.

"I will admit that I rolled my eyes a bit as I agreed to take my eleven-year old granddaugher to see this film," remembers RSMP veteran Terry Decker. "I did not expect the punch lines to punch so deep and wide. They did! It's humbling to be punched in the gut while laughing."

Writer-Director Greta Gerwig weaves a balance of whimsical comedy and biting satire into an entertaining and sweeping tapestry that exposes the raw cultural reflection of marketing in American toydom with America's ever evolving reconciliation of gender and sexual identity in a patriarchic world. The film promises to offer ample opportunity for RSMP attendees to consider and celebrate this evolution, however halted and promising. Pink clothing is optional, but encouraged for this session!
